Thingamajiggr Wrap up and Final Thanks

Posted by shelly on October 22, 2007

Our Thingamajiggr party last week went well, I think, aside from a few technical glitches. :) We sold all 200 tickets which is a good sign. One of our main goals is to build up the tech community here in Seattle (as Brady Forrest says, give Seattle more gravity), I am hoping people will want to participate more at the next one! Here’s the final wrap up email we sent to folks:

Hey everyone, we had a great time with you all at Thingamajiggr, thanks for coming to our party! Thanks to your contributions we are donating 500$ to the Electronic Frontier Foundation and 500$ to Todd Blair’s Fund (learn more on the Survival Research Lab web site).

Espressobuzz posted some great pictures of Thingamajiggr on Flickr here

Special thanks to John Kau, Elan Lee, and Pablos and 3ric for speaking, to Chris Bell for organizing DJs and DJs for great music, the trees crew, Rob and Lara of the Tesla coil, Josh Lind for his radio DJ project, Eric Sun for letting us use his space, and to all the volunteers who helped with set up and take down and by taking shifts at the door! Thanks to Crowdvine for providing the network, it’s never too late to join at http://thingamajiggr.crowdvine.com.

Also, thanks to all of you for being our guinea pigs for our mobile game Waggle Prime! It was the first time we deployed it to that many people (90 joined) and naturally, alas, we ran into some messaging kinks. Nonetheless, Team Green persevered and won with 4 kills! We’ll be trying the new improved version at the upcoming Hive-Mind Halloween party so be sure and come if you want to try it out again.

A few folks asked us if we’ll being doing another Thingamajiggr. The answer, yes! Probably in about six months, so start thinking now about how you can participate! In addition, we’d love your feedback. It was an unusual mix of speakers, art/hackery, and party. For the next one, what direction would you like us to shift towards, if any? How would you suggest we improve the event? Let us know at party - at - thingamajiggr.com.

Your hosts,

Shelly and Peter, Waggle Labs, and Brady, O’Reilly Radar
